day one

day one of nano wrimo was so much fun, and yet so challenging at the same time.

I forgot how much of a slow writer I am, but this could also be because I didn’t do much of prep work.

I met my daily goal, which I’m so proud of, but I wished I had it in me to write more. But, it’s 11:28pm after a long day of work, dinner, and spending some time with my dad on the phone. I also have 6am spin tomorrow. Let’s see how productive I feel after little sleep for a full day of 8 hours of work, 1.5 hours of fun, 3 hours of chores, and 4 hours of writing.

Despite those odds, I can do this!!!

Today I wrote 1682 words in 3.25 hours.

Happy NaNoWriMo!

Today is the first day of this challenge. And I’m so excited for my project.

I call this year’s project: Project Maria.

I’m writing a Latinx romance novel from the point of view of Maria. A first gen college student in persuit of becoming an educator. More on this story as it develops.

I’ve had this idea of a novel for three years, and like all of my past 5 nano’s, I never finished.

But now, I can’t give. I have no excuses not to get this done. I have a full time job (with no foreseeable overtime) with health insurance, my own studio in the city I’ve always wanted to live in (San Diego), and I have 16 days off (weekends, PTO requests, and holiday paid days) to get this done.

This is my chance to become the writer I’ve always wanted to become.

Right now I’m on my lunch, working, but after work, it’s time to start developing the ideas that have been engrained in me since the age of 12.

May the odds be on your favor, dear writers.

I can’t believe I spent time on this instead of writing, lool

the scariest thing about today is that all around the world, the screams and panicked last minute frantic scrambling of writers can be heard

Welcome to Day 1 of NaNoWriMo

Tip for the day:

Get something down on the page. It doesn’t matter if it’s good. Nothing is more daunting than a blank page.

“It’s the start of Nanowrimo,” the writer said.

The character looked up from their phone for a moment. They wiggled their socked feet hanging off the edge of the couch. “So?”

“So get up, get dressed, get out there,” the writer said. They reached over the back of the couch and plucked the phone from the character’s grip. They frowned. “Are you texting your rival?”

“Not my rival until you set the circumstances,” the character said. They brought their arms over their head in a stretch. “Until then they’re just hot.”

The writer couldn’t deny it. The rival was very hot. “I need you to get up for me to set the circumstances.”

The character grinned. “You didn’t do any Nano prep, did you?”

They did not.

“I just need you to sort of stand next to them,” the writer said defensively. “It’ll come to me then.”

“Sure, sure,” the character said in a sing-song voice. They slunk towards the door. “Maybe it won’t be enough for me to stand next to them. Maybe I’ll need to hold their hand to inspire you.”

The writer swallowed. “I’m sure that won’t be necessary—“

“Maybe we should kiss.”

“No, that’s—“

“Be right back,” the character called, disappearing down the hall. “Gonna go kiss my hot rival!”

“No!” The writer booked it after them. “No, no kissing!”

The character laughed.
